Well, we played well for 54 seconds!

FULL TIME: Germany 4-1 England. England's worst World Cup finals defeat in history is sealed. By all accounts, there was 54 seconds between Matthew Upson's goal and Frank Lampard's crazy ping over the line. Now, it was a disgraceful decision not to allow that goal, and if it was given much might have changed. But it effectively means that England played well for 54 seconds out of 90 minutes. A terrible show, and an especially pathetic defensive performance.

  1. Younger and more energetic, Germany exploited it, skipping between the lines, darting along the diagonals and stretching England. I knew Germany would win. England just isn't that good, plain and simple. Incredibly overrated. Germany was amazing. England got robbed on the goal.. but Germans were better.

  2. Germany has advanced farther than the English in every World Cup since 1966! How frustrating that must be for the English! On paper the English have better players, but the Germans always seem to overachieve. It's amazing to me how players like Podowlski and Klose can do so well for the national team right after having terrible seasons with their club teams. Rooney, on the other hand....

  4. England did get robbed on that goal. For once, Lampard actually hit the ball on target. I guess the ref just assumed that his shot would fly over the cross bar, like most of the shots we have seen from him.
