That poor Japanese defender!

I love/hate watching shoot-outs. They make me so nervous but at the same time its fun watching so many goals! I feel so bad for the Japanese player that missed. On another note..I can not believe how many yellow cards that ref was handing out.

  1. I agree - shootouts make me nauseous. I always feel especially bad for anyone who misses the target altogether - at least if the goalie makes a great save the burden isn't all on the shooter who missed. Yeah, that ref was ridiculous. It's crazy to give a yellow to a player who has a ball kicked into his arm.

  2. That game was ridiculous. Too many bookings were given. I could not believe the Japanese player that got a booking during stoppage time for an unintentional handball. They're exhausted at that point, and the ref decides to halt the tempo of the game, just so he can keep taking out his stupid, little notebook only to jot down some bogus call. I agree with you John, watching PKs takes all the fun out of it. It's never pretty to have score come down to Paraguay 0 (5) : 0 (3) Japan. I thought the Japanese were very impressive to watch. There's no question that Asian soccer has improved in the past couple decades.

  3. PKs are terrible (bring back the golden goal, please) but I thought that was the most exciting part of that match.

There's been so much discussion about the danger of video technology for refs disrupting the flow of the game, but in the past few matches, the whistle-happy refs have been awful at disrupting play! Netherlands-Slovakia was ridiculous. I started timing the ref: he usually stopped play within 15 seconds.
